VI.12.2 Pompeii. March 2009. Triclinium mosaic
floor.
This floor contained a
fine mosaic in such a damaged condition that the subject – a lion standing over
a prostrate tiger – could not be made out, until a duplicate was found in 1885.
See Mau, A., 1907, translated by Kelsey F. W. Pompeii: Its Life and Art.

VI.12.2 Pompeii. 1833.
Drawing of mosaic emblema of a lion, found in centre of triclinium floor, room
42 (but room 40 on Breton original plan).
According to Breton,
when found this was badly damaged, and for that reason was not taken to the
Museum.
See Breton, Ernest.
1870. Pompeia, Guide de visite a Pompei,
3rd ed. Paris, Guerin.
According to Pagano
and Prisciandaro, this beautiful mosaic of a lion was found in many fragments.
It was found in 1831,
see PAH II, 250.

and Prisciandaro, R., 2006. Studio sulle
provenienze degli oggetti rinvenuti negli scavi borbonici del regno di Napoli. Naples : Nicola Longobardi. (p.146)
