VI.11.10 Pompeii. Found in room 45, small room on right side of room 43, on 10th September 1835. Mosaic of partridge stealing a mirror. Now in Naples Archaeological Museum, inventory number 9980. See Pagano, M. and Prisciandaro, R., 2006. Studio sulle provenienze degli oggetti rinvenuti negli scavi borbonici del regno di Napoli. Naples: Nicola Longobardi. (p.151) PAH II, 316. According to Fiorelli in PAH, II, (p.316) – 10th September 1835. And in the floor of the small room on the right, near to the right corner at the head of the magnificent tablinum, we have discovered a square mosaic sized 10.37 inches squared (0.26m squared) or in italian “di pal. 1 in quadro”, embedded in a piece of marble, showing a partridge in the act of removing a jewel from a beautiful chest whose lid has been overturned.”

Richardson described this as – “Paintings show vistas of architecture, a temenos containing a Tholos flanked by symmetrical panels of cityscape.” See Richardson, L., 1988. Pompeii: An Architectural History. Baltimore: John Hopkins University Press. (p.165).
