According to Warscher –
“The holes remain after the paintings have been transferred to the Museum.
The ornaments left in situ deserve attention because they are among the finest of the Third style.
As for the side panels – you can clearly see that they represented curtains.
As far as I know this is the only example of the Third style where curtains are represented.
If it were not for this example so characteristic of the Third style, (just look at the ornaments!), I would have said that the curtains are found only in the Fourth style, but this example prevents me from doing this generalization.

Gli ornamenti
rimasti in situ meritano attenzione perche sono fra i piu fini del terzo stile.
Quanto ai
pannelli laterali – si vede chiaramente che rappresentavano delle cortine.
Per quanto io
sappia questo era l’unico esempio del terzo stile dove sono rappresentate
cortine.
Se non fosse
questo esempio cosi caratteristico del terzo stile, (basta vedere gli
ornamenti!), io avrei detto che le cortine si riscontrano solamente nel quarto
stile, ma proprio questo esempio mi impedisce di fare questa generalizzazione.)
