VIII.5.39
Wall of room 1 with
remains of plaster, between rooms 5 and 6.

VIII.5.39
South wall with
window, and west wall. Looking west.
According to
Jashemski, this small garden area had a raised strip of soil at the base of the
walls.
In the middle was a
pavement, serving as a passageway.
The small garden gave
light to the triclinium through the window in the south wall.
It also gave light to
a room in a neighbour’s house on the west (VIII.5.2).
