VII.9.19 Pompeii. September 2005. North entrance to Macellum on Via degli Augustali, looking south.  According to Mau, somewhere amongst these shops and stalls to the north of the macellum, various charred foodstuffs were found. Charred figs, chestnuts, fruits in glass vessels, plums, grapes, lentils, grain, loaves of bread and cakes were excavated. See Mau, A., 1907, translated by Kelsey, F. W., Pompeii: Its Life and Art.
