VIII.7.28 Pompeii. July 2010. Irregular shaped sacred room. Looking east from west end.
This room is entered through the arched entrance in the
south west corner of the colonnade.
Mau refers to it as a sacred room and as the Hal of
Initiation.

Mau describes a sacred
room that seems to have been used for secret ceremonies.
It was entered from
the colonnade by a narrow door which could be securely fastened.
On the north side is a
niche that apparently formed part of a small shrine.

The water filled
plastic bottles are stabilisers for the lighting towers used in the large
theatre.

Dionysus was identified with the Egyptian god Osiris.

VIII.7.28 Pompeii. Inscribed dedications were found in the
sanctuary.
These were on the bases of the herm of Norbanus Sorex, of
the statue of Dionysus and of the statue of Isis, and on the floor of the
Ekklesiasterion.
N(umerius) Popidius Ampliatus, N(umerius) Popidius
Celsinus, and Corelia Celsa, the donators, were father, son and mother.
